Ask our team ↗What does an insurance assessor do?
FAMSA uses technical expertise and industry knowledge to assess electrical and mechanical damage, evaluate claims and prepare reports for insurers. Once the insurer approves the work, we coordinate repairs or replacements through approved trades.
How does FAMSA receive assessment requests?
Assessment requests come through insurance companies, brokers, restorers and builders. Referrals can be received through the FAMSA database, email or an online environment.
How will I know my claim has been referred to FAMSA?
A member of our team will contact you directly once we have received the assessment request.
How do you provide a national service?
Although based in Queensland, FAMSA manages an extensive network of qualified contractors across every Australian state and territory.
What if a repairer report has already been supplied?
A FAMSA assessor can complete a document validation of the report already supplied.
What if a repairer report has not been supplied?
Following an initial triage call, our team determines the appropriate assessment type. An assessor or qualified trade will be assigned if an inspection is required.
How do I identify the assessor or tradesperson?
FAMSA assessors and tradespeople introduce themselves and show official identification on arrival. Contact our office if you need further verification.
Can I request a specific inspection day or time?
We do our best to accommodate preferred dates and times, although specific appointment slots cannot always be guaranteed. Our team will work with you to find a suitable arrangement.
How long does an inspection usually take?
Most inspections take between 30 minutes and one hour. Simpler assessments can sometimes be completed in as little as 10 minutes.
What if an assessor or tradesperson cannot attend?
FAMSA will notify you, adjust the schedule and help keep your claim moving forward.
What types of repairs and replacements do you handle?
FAMSA handles electrical and mechanical claims for building and contents items, including motor burnout, storm, minor flood, impact and water damage. We coordinate the trades required for approved work.
How long does the assessment process take?
Each claim requires a tailored approach. FAMSA aims to make the initial triage call within 24 hours of receiving the claim details. That call helps outline a timeline based on the circumstances of your claim.
Who approves repairs and replacements?
Your insurer reviews the assessment report and advises FAMSA of its decision. Repairs and replacements are coordinated after insurer approval.
Who can I contact about costs or my excess?
Contact your insurer or claims manager to confirm your policy excess, cover and any costs that may apply to your claim.
How can I raise a concern?
Contact FAMSA as the first point of contact for concerns or escalations. Our team can resolve issues directly or involve the appropriate specialists. You can also contact your insurer’s claims manager.
What if new issues appear before repairs are completed?
Please notify FAMSA immediately. A reassessment and updated scope of work may be needed for your insurer’s approval.
Can a claims manager ask about specialist availability?
